Don Imus got the axe Thursday, nine days after calling members of the Rutgers women's basketball team "Nappy headed-hos".
Under pressure from women's groups, civil rights groups and maybe most importantly from adverstisers, CBS joined NBC in taking Imus off the air.
He'll be back on the air sometime soon, no doubt. He draws an audience, and therefore makes money for his corporate sponsors. He has done outstanding political commentary, poltical humor and has a guest list that anybody in radio would be proud to have.
But a man who has stirred the pot like he has, and who has been standing on the edge of cultural decency for nearly 40 years, is getting what he deserved.
Taking shots at the political elite in America can be funny. Taking shots at young college basketball players is out of bounds. And, that's why Imus is out of work.
